Salt-crusted veterans whisper of an island of swirling black fog that manifests in the night. Ships that sail into it are never seen again. One of those ships carried a mysterious relic that can not be allowed to remain lost.
The Dungeoneers take to the high seas to do what has never been done before--sail into the fog and return to tell the tale.
Pirates, sea monsters, smugglers, merfolk and slithery tentacle things with pointy bits stand between the dwarves and the most dangerous challenge they've ever faced.

This is an ARC review.Be prepared to immerse yourself in a well written tale filled with adventure, intrigue, pirates, monsters, dwarves and a sadistic parrot. The author brings you along on a carefully crafted adventure with plenty of twists and turns and a healthy amount of laugh-out-loud humor.
The characters are finely drawn - each unique, engaging and believable. The good guys are folks you'd want to hang out with - not ridiculously noble and righteous, just people doing their best in trying situations. The bad guys are mostly people you can relate to too - except for the really bad bad guys, of course!
I highly recommend this, and the first Dungeoneers, book. Within the fantasy genre, amidst the current avalanche of dystopian worlds and depressing storytelling, along comes these clever, witty, gems that leave you with a smile. I am an avid reader and it has been a long, long time since I have enjoyed a book (both of them) this much.
Can not wait for the next adventure! Write faster Mr. Russell.

The Dungeoneers Blackfog Island edition by Jeffery Russell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this book because of all the different inventions used to help the buccaneers stay alive; really amazing that none of them were killed. The Mermen kind of confused things but not as bad as the half frog people. I think the whole idea of the island was weird, but hey I finished the book and have already purchased the third..
It's simple really, this book is just fun.
The short of it is that if you liked the first book, then this one is just as good albeit more polished. The same group of characters are back plus a couple new and welcome additions. The focus this time is on some other characters than the first book, but that is fine as we are just here for witty dialogue and spoofs, right?
There isn't much more to tell. If you want a fun fantasy book that is a candy sweet treat, then this is the book for you.
Four and one half stars, made me laugh out loud and I hardly ever get too, you have mango who's a gnome who thinks he's a dwarf but who's in disguise as a gnome so to fool everyone so they think he's not a dwarf, I think and he's just one of the Dungeness who all have special talents, love the with tons of unusual action! Can't wait for the next book and the narrator, Faust Kells, is perfect, very entertaining, I enjoyed it as much as the first Dungeoneer, didn't really want to start it because I know its going to be a while for the next!
When you take a genre full of tropes and stereotypes and give it a Purple Herman, you start to get a feel for the approach of the Dungeoneers. The odds are impossible , but with, dwarven stubbornness, lateral thinking, and a bit of luck (okay - a huge amount of luck), you know it'll all work out in the end. The whole adventure is laced with so many levels of wit that everybody is sure to be satisfied. I'm really looking forward to the third installment.
Oh - and if you haven't read the first one yet, start there. This book builds on the characters developed in the first book, but doesn't re-lay the foundation.
Disclaimer I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a review.
If you liked 'The Dungeoneers', you'll like the sequel. The crew is back with a new adventure, foiling a deadly plot while trying to . . . umm . . . recover as many valuable artifacts as they can. And solve a mystery. And stay alive. (Thank goodness they're professionals and *not* adventurers).
This is a fun book; it reads as if it was based on a D&D adventure (apparently it was). The action keeps moving (I'll read just one chapter. Really), We see the primary characters develop, and the world is getting fleshed out. While this campaign gets finalized, there are still mysteries to understand, jobs to be done, and stuff to recover.
Looking forward to the next installment, to see what's in store for this crew next!
Jeffrey Russell does it again! I received The Dungeoneers for free through Unlimited and have read it more than a dozen times. I refuse to return it; it is an oasis of fantasy in a dystopian desert. Blackfog Island is the second in hopefully a long series of silly, fun, and refreshingly unpredictable irreverence.
D&D and fantasy adventure fans have likely read all the great works in the genre; there are so many different styles of story telling. When I picked up the version of Russell's first book, The Dungeoneers, i fell in love with his witty story telling ability. Russell immerses the reader in the story via the dialog; that is where he is strongest. As with the first book, Blackfog Island is easy reading as the characters live the story through dialog without me having to wade through paragraphs of background descriptions and dull recitations of complex names and histories. There is just enough of that to give a framework for the Dwarves and team to get through their adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed both of his books; I hope there is a third.
