Are you into historical fiction? The new Seeking Mana series are launched! Through the first episode, The Red Comet, you will travel back two centuries ago at a time when Fiji islanders were unaware of what happened outside their island region in the South Seas...
Delve into the early 19th century's world and accompany the journeys of several historical and fictional characters, whose fates are to converge towards the Fiji islands, while the world is shaken by Napoleonic wars, struggles for independences, global trade, anti-slavery movements and clashes of civillisations.
What if the vision of a red comet announced the end of the old world in the Fiji islands? What if that red comet was but a sign for the future arrival of gun fire and redheads, such as the troubled teenager Peter Dillon, struggling with his identity in an unpoverished Ireland?
In 1799's India, when George Wilson is shot at the battle of Seringapatam, opposing the British Empire to the kingdom of Mysore, it triggers a series of events that will change the lives of many people, amongst whom a Scottish soldier, Anthony Burnside, and along, Ganesh, a small Indian boy who is forced on a journey across the ocean aboard the Earl Abergavenny, a ship of the British East India Company bound for Canton on her way back to England.
Mysterious, historically detailed and deeply moving, the Seeking Mana series is a vast tale that will haunt you and accompany you in your daydreaming.

The Red Comet Seeking Mana #01 eBook William Hyllside
The author reached out via email asking for a review. I'm not into historical fiction, but since this is an episodic, I figured I'd check out the free, short ebook. Obviously this isn't a full story. There are numerous character/stories unfolding that appear to all be connected to the Red Comet and ultimately the Fiji Islands. If there are historical characters - they got lost on me; not my known history. One stumble for me - all the unique names and places. It kept me from flowing in and out of the threads. Maybe if I wasn't me and grew up somewhere across the pond the names wouldn't have been as odd?
So, snippets of a story. Some of the characters were pretty interesting and it was fun seeing that era unfold in a land other than mine. At this time, kindle unlimited makes this a free download.
Author style - I think there is talent in the words. This is the beginning of a vast jig-saw puzzle.
Like the other reviewer, I received this from the author for review. Unlike the other reviewer, I'm disclosing that fact.

The Red Comet Seeking Mana #01 eBook William Hyllside Reviews
Author William Hyllside opens his trilogy SEEKING MANA with this first volume THE RED COMET. Professionally William has experience in linguistics, education and international cooperation, living in such disparate plates as the USA, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Ecuador, Congo and Fiji. It is not difficult to understand why he is so fascinated by cultural diversity, oriental philosophies, fantasy sagas and world history. If Book 1 of his series is any indication of how an author can blend history, fantasy, and miscegenation of cultures well then it seems he has a solid contribution to make.
So often a book’s flavor is created in a Prologue and that is certainly the case with William’s work ‘The silence was perfect. Back then. The year 1800 was yet to come. It would do so less than a year after. Of course, he didn't know anything about that. He had no calendar but his own eyes and ears. Far away from the world unknown to that island lost in the middle of the southern ocean, up in the sacred mountain ranges of the north, near the entrance of an obscure cave, a dark and ageless man was seated on a rock, cross legged, his head covered by a white turban, his groin concealed by a white skirt. The snakish skin of his chest was free from clothes, offered to the rays of the fierce sun. An eerie wind started to blow from the west.’ In a few words, we are there, where the story opens.
The synopsis is a solid ‘Delve into the early 19th century's world and accompany the journeys of several historical and fictional characters, whose fates are to converge towards the Fiji islands, while the world is shaken by Napoleonic wars, struggles for independences, global trade, anti-slavery movements and clashes of civilizations. What if the vision of a red comet announced the end of the old world in the Fiji islands? What if that red comet was but a sign for the future arrival of gunfire and redheads, such as the troubled teenager Peter Dillon, struggling with his identity in an impoverished Ireland? In 1799's India, when George Wilson is shot at the battle of Seringapatam, opposing the British Empire to the kingdom of Mysore, it triggers a series of events that will change the lives of many people, amongst whom a Scottish soldier, Anthony Burnside, and along, Ganesh, a small Indian boy who is forced on a journey across the ocean aboard the Earl Abergavenny, a ship of the British East India Company bound for Canton on her way back to England.’
Covering as many countries as this book requires eye adjustment to names and references to places that at times slows the reading, but the story is rather short and so well propelled that once into the adventure it is difficult to set it aside. Fine start! Grady Harp, April 16
